2025 Election

An individual who intends to be nominated or has been nominated to run for election as a candidate, must give written notice to the Town of Vegreville. The following form may be submitted in-person or by email at election@vegreville.com.

Notice of Intent to Run

No individual or person acting on behalf of an individual may accept contributions or incur campaign expenses until Notice of Intent to Run is complete and they have been added to the Register of Candidates. Further information on campaign financing is available within the Campaigning and Campaign Financing section below.

Nominations for Mayor or Councillors will be accepted from January 1, 2025, until September 22, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. MST. Nomination forms will be accepted at the Town Administration Office. Contact the Deputy Returning Officer below to arrange for a time. Further information on nomination requirements is available within the Candidate Information section below.

When can I start campaigning?

Campaigning can start after your nomination papers are filed.  

Where can I find information on campaign finances? 

There have been changes made to the Local Authorities Election Act around campaign finances and advertising, so make sure to familiarize yourself with the regulations.

NEW for 2025

Municipalities are required to maintain a Permanent Elector Register of residents who are eligible to vote. You must be registered to vote on Election Day.

• To pre-register or check your registration status, visit the Voterlink website 
• The Town of Vegreville will receive and use their list of eligible voters from Voterlink, so please confirm your information is correct to ensure you are ready to vote
• Please note that registering through Voterlink will add you to the Provincial Electors Registry
• If you are not on the Permanent Electors Registry, you must bring a number of documents on election day to confirm your eligibility to vote.

At the Polling Station

If You Are Already Named on the Permanent Electors Register:

• you must provide one piece of Government-issued photo ID, including your full name, current address, and photo.
• Please note: Another elector can no longer vouch for your identity. You must be able to produce an acceptable form of identification.

If You Are Not Named on the Permanent Electors Register:

• Make a statement confirming your eligibility to vote in the prescribed form.
• Validate your identity and address of residence by producing one (1) of the following:
  • One piece of Government-issued photo ID, including your full name, current address, and photo.
  • One piece of identification authorized under the Election Act (s. 100(2)(b)) that establishes your name and current address of residence.
  • A more detailed list of authorized identifications will be provided closer to Election Day.

For Identification Containing a Mailing Address (e.g., PO Box):

• If you registered to vote at your current physical address, you can use your Driver’s License or Identification Card with your current mailing address.
• If you are not registered to vote or need to register at a new physical address:
  • If you have a Government of Alberta-issued Driver’s License or Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, you do not need additional identification.
  • If you do not have a Government of Alberta-issued license, you will need additional identification to prove your physical address (e.g., legal land description, lot-block-plan, and/or 911 address) prior to voting.

Vouching

• Another elector is only permitted to vouch for someone’s address, not their identity.
• An elector who has been vouched for cannot vouch for another.
